In 2007 the city\u2019s art establishment reopened the New Museum on The Bowery and put Massimiliano Gioni, who earned unprecedented acclaim as curator of this year\u2019s Venice Biennale, in charge of the exhibitions. Today a ceaseless stream of gallery openings and a steady southeast migration out of Chelsea\u2014from Lehmann Maupin to Thierry Goldberg\u2014are creating a new arena for the arts. Herewith, a can\u2019t-miss ten-stop tour.<\/p>\n<p>A series of lofty but intimate rooms designed by Foster + Partners freshens up the tightly conceived program at<strong>Sperone Westwater<\/strong>\u00a0(think Tom Sachs, Bruce Nauman, Susan Rothenberg and Julian Schnabel) after 35 years in more conventional SoHo and Meatpacking District spaces.\u00a0<em>At 257 Bowery;\u00a0<a title=\"Sperone Westwater\" href=\"http:\/\/www.speronewestwater.com\/\" target=\"_blank\">speronewestwater.com<\/a>.<\/em><\/p>\n<p>Following a debut on the Upper East Side\u2019s Museum Mile, Jeanne Greenberg Rohatyn opted for not one but two satellite spaces to present\u00a0<strong>Salon 94<\/strong>\u2019s ultra-contemporary shows featuring works by the likes of Paula Hayes, Laurie Simmons and Lorna Simpson.\u00a0<em>At 243 Bowery and 1 Freeman Alley;\u00a0<a title=\"Salon 94\" href=\"http:\/\/www.salon94.com\/\" target=\"_blank\">salon94.com<\/a>.<\/em><\/p>\n<p>Though it recalls a street-front railroad apartment, the unassuming Hudson, New York, transplant\u00a0<strong>Callicoon Fine Arts<\/strong>\u00a0boasts some lesser-known powerhouses such as Lebanese painter Etel Adnan.\u00a0<em>At 124 Forsyth St.;\u00a0<a title=\"Callicoon Fine Arts\" href=\"http:\/\/www.callicoonfinearts.com\/\" target=\"_blank\">callicoonfinearts.com<\/a>.<\/em><\/p>\n<p>Elizabeth Denny\u2019s eye for up-and-coming talent is on wide display at\u00a0<strong>Denny Gallery<\/strong>\u00a0(Amanda Valdez, in particular, is an artist to watch). The space is small and standard issue; the work is anything but.\u00a0<em>At 261 Broome St.;\u00a0<a title=\"Denny Gallery\" href=\"http:\/\/www.dennygallery.com\/\" target=\"_blank\">dennygallery.com<\/a>.<\/em><\/p>\n<p>Down the hallway of a generic Chinatown office building,\u00a0<strong>Horton Gallery<\/strong>\u2019s new space combines fluorescent lighting and a floor of 1820s cobblestones from the property\u2019s former life as a brewery.\u00a0<em>At 55\u201359 Chrystie St., Ste.
